Cemical Constituents:
It consists of normally complex mixture of calcium, magnesium, potassium saltsof arabic acids
Chemical Test:
1.Lead acetate test: Aqueous solution of acacia when treated with lead acetet solution yield heavy white precipitate.
2. Reducing sugar test: Hydrolysis of aqueous solution or Acacia with dilute HCL yield reducing sugar whose presence are ascertained by boiling with Fehling solution to give a brick-red precipitate of cuprous oxide
3.Borax test: An aqueous solution of Acacia affords a stiff translucent mass on treatment with borax
Uses;
1. Mucilage of Acacia is employed as a demulcent.
2.it used as vital pharmaceutical Aid for emulsification
3.used as thickening agent.
4 Binding agent for tablets. Ex: cough lozenges
5. Used in process of graduation for manufacturing of tablets
6. Used in extensively in making of candy and other food products
